EMA is pleased to announce our 2017 EMA Physicians of the Year! One physician from each of our three regions, LA Basin, SFV Region and Outside LA Region was chosen by their peers for their dedication and contribution to the hospitals and communities they serve. In its second year, the EMA Physician of the Year program was designed to identify physicians who provide excellence in everything they do. We are proud to have the following physicians as members of the EMA family! Congratulations!

LA Basin
Congratulations to Dr. Khanh Nguyen, our 2017 EMA Physician for the Year-LA Basin Region! With praises such as, “team player, great bedside manner and knowledgeable”, “Great clinical expertise”, “Well-liked by all staff”, “Dedication to the site and accountable” and “Fantastic physician”, Dr. Nguyen was a clear choice for the award. A member of our EMA family since 2006, Dr. Nguyen has been working at Centinela Hospital Medical Center. Prior to joining EMA, Dr. Nguyen received his Doctor of Medicine degree with distinction in Otolaryngology Research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He is board certified in both Emergency and Internal Medicine. Upon graduating, Dr. Nguyen completed both his Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine Residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, where he served as the Chief Resident for Emergency Medicine. Congratulations on your well-deserved award!

SFV Region
Congratulations to Dr. Jim Lai, our 2017 EMA Physician for the Year-SFV Region! With praises such as, “Hardworking, loyal, dedicated physician and absolute definition of a good ER doctor”, “Excellence clinician, always willing to help colleagues with trade shifts and always willing to pick up shifts”, “Goes above and beyond for patient care”, “Never complains” and “He’s a good colleague to work with”, Dr. Lai was a clear choice for the award. A member of our EMA family since 2005, Dr. Lai has been working at Providence Tarzana Medical Center. Prior to joining EMA, Dr. Lai received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and completed his residency at New York Methodist Hospital Emergency Medicine. In 2002, Dr. Lai received the 2002 NYMH Emergency Medicine Academic Achievement Award. Congratulations and thank you for everything you do!

Outside LA
Congratulations to Dr. Chris Hammond, our 2017 EMA Physician for the Year-Outside LA Region! With praises such as, “Friendly”, “Wonderful physician and colleague”, “Always willing to help cover shifts”, and “Volunteers in Iraq near combat zone”, Dr. Hammond was a clear choice for the award. A member of our EMA family since 2015, Dr. Hammond has been working at Los Alamos Medical Center. Prior to joining EMA, Dr. Hammond received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and completed his residency at York Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency in York, PA where he also served as the Chief Resident. Congratulations Dr. Hammond!
