Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Awards Urgent Care Center Management Contract to Emergent Medical Associates


(January 28, 2009, Los Angeles, CA) Emergent Medical Associates (EMA), a leading provider of physician staffing and practice management services, proudly announced that it has entered into an agreement with the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services (LADHS) to provide Urgent Care Center (UCC) physician services at Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center (MLK-MACC).

The contract begins on February 1, 2009 and encompasses clinical and operational management as well as physician recruitment and staffing. Drs. Lee R. Weiss, Cesar A. Aristeiguieta and Walter J. “Ricky” Bush have been named the physician leadership team.

“This marks an important milestone for EMA as it is our first LADHS contract,” stated Dr. Irv Edwards, Chairman and Founder of EMA. “We look forward to bringing in a high quality group of committed and experienced physicians to MLK who share the broader purpose of restoring the cost effective delivery of superior quality care to the community.”

EMA will utilize a unique multi-disciplinary team of physicians, mid-level providers, management executives and business experts to serve the MLK-MACC. EMA’s goals are to increase per visit efficiency and decrease length of stays, increase patient satisfaction and provide a superior level of patient care. Most importantly EMA desires to improve the actual and perceived care in the community and rebuild the community’s trust in the facility.

The MLK-MACC contract, marks EMA’s entry into the Urgent Care market.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center (MLK-MACC) is part of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services' Southwest Network, which includes Hubert H. Humphrey and Dollarhide Comprehensive Health Centers and is part of the MetroCare Network. MLK-MACC is comprised of an Urgent Care Center for adults and pediatric patients. It is open from 8:00 am to midnight daily and approximately 70 Outpatient Clinics operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. MLK-MACC serves South Los Angeles County, California.
