Congratulations To Our 2021 EMA Spotlight of the Quarter!

Our EMA Spotlight of the Quarter is Jason Aines, MD!

Med School: University of Vermont College of Medicine - MD
Bucknell University - BA in Biology and Psychology
Residency: Temple University - Residency

Dr. Jason Aines currently works in Maui, where he has been a member of EMA for the past three years. A near death accident while hiking first inspired Dr. Aines to pursue medicine. "The first person on scene was a Physician Assistant, and his confidence, calm demeanor, and reassurance during a three-hour extrication left a lasting impression," he recalls.

Later, he volunteered at a medical clinic in Nueva Vida, Nicaragua, as part of a relief effort after Hurricane Mitch. He subsequently returned to this clinic as a medical student, resident, and several times as an attending and has had the pleasure of mentoring prospective and current medical students there. Dr. Aines says that Emergency Medicine is the most interesting, rewarding, challenging, and coolest of all the medical specialties, but it was the personalities that drew him to the field. "While rotating through the department at Maine Medical Center, I realized these were the people I wanted to hang out with the most! The collegiality amongst all staff inside and out of the department felt unique in the world of medicine."

His favorite part of the job is when ancillary staff, nursing, attendings, and consultants come together to work collectively as a unit. "There is nothing more rewarding than this powerful shared experience you have with your fellow staff," Dr. Aines says. Outside of work, Dr. Aines is an intermittently avid runner. He also enjoys cooking and makes a point to read his kids to sleep every night he's home.
